Tough Day

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the lower 80's. The wind was light and variable which made it feel extremely hot. There were no waves today, just flat water where ever you looked. The water temp is 82 degrees. Started fishing by Turtle Island and the catching was very slow. Caught a few short walleye and only 2 keeper walleye. We pulled lines and headed into the swamp to try it there. We set up with wiggle warts set at 30 feet back. We never caught a fish. Pulled lines and headed towards the dumping grounds. We fished the south side of the dump with wiggle warts set at 60 and 70 feet back. We caught a couple of walleye but the fishing was slow. We put junior thunder sticks  on one side of the boat and that might helped a little bit. We decided to quit fishing early to be the charter boats in the cleaning station which worked out perfect. Kept 7 walleye and 2 perch. We sat on the beach again today and enjoyed our lunch.

Fish Are Staying Put

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the middle 60's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 80's. The wind was out of the south less than 10 knots with very little waves. The water temp is 81 degrees. We started fishing by Turtle Island running wiggle warts set at 50 feet back. The catching was a lot slower today. Once we were in 12 to 13 foot of water we started to catch some fish. We worked the shallow waters around the island and we finally caught our fish. Kept 12 walleye but it took a lot longer today. I think we are spoiled with the great fishery that we have.

It's Almost Too Hot to Fish!!

Fished with Joe. After yesterdays great day of fishing we had to go again. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 80's The water temp is 81 degrees. Fished the same location as yesterday and the catching was just a little slower. Today there was more boat traffic than yesterday. The fishing was good but today we lost a few large fish right behind the boat. It's that time of year were the fish slide right off the lure. We were done early enough to beat the heat again which makes for a great day. Kept 12 walleye.

Weather is Hot and so is the Fishing

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the lower 80's. The wind was light out of the south with hardly and waves. The water temp is 80 degrees. We set up about a half mile past the S buoy trolling towards Turtle Island with wiggle warts set at 50 feet back. We were catching walleye right out of the gate and the fishing never slowed down. We caught mostly walleye and the majority of them were keepers. Just a great fishing day on Lake Erie. Kept 12 walleye and we were done before it started to get hot. After we cleaned the fish we went to the picnic table and ate lunch. There was a little breeze coming off the lake and it was very cool. On the ride home the car temperature read 95 degrees.

The Heat Wave is Starting

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the upper 60's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 80's. The wind was out of the northwest at 5 knots with a little chop on the lake. The water temp is 79 degrees. Started fishing by the S buoy trolling towards Turtle Island with wiggle warts set at 50 feet back. We were catching fish just not walleye. Only caught 1 keeper. Moved about 3/4 mile south of the S buoy and set up with the same program and we started to catch a coupe of walleye. The fishing was very slow but we stayed put and picked away at a few fish. It was getting hot so we decided to call it a day. Kept 7 walleye.

Lot's of Small Walleye
