Tough Day

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the lower 80's. The wind was light and variable which made it feel extremely hot. There were no waves today, just flat water where ever you looked. The water temp is 82 degrees. Started fishing by Turtle Island and the catching was very slow. Caught a few short walleye and only 2 keeper walleye. We pulled lines and headed into the swamp to try it there. We set up with wiggle warts set at 30 feet back. We never caught a fish. Pulled lines and headed towards the dumping grounds. We fished the south side of the dump with wiggle warts set at 60 and 70 feet back. We caught a couple of walleye but the fishing was slow. We put junior thunder sticks  on one side of the boat and that might helped a little bit. We decided to quit fishing early to be the charter boats in the cleaning station which worked out perfect. Kept 7 walleye and 2 perch. We sat on the beach again today and enjoyed our lunch.

Fish Are Staying Put

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the middle 60's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 80's. The wind was out of the south less than 10 knots with very little waves. The water temp is 81 degrees. We started fishing by Turtle Island running wiggle warts set at 50 feet back. The catching was a lot slower today. Once we were in 12 to 13 foot of water we started to catch some fish. We worked the shallow waters around the island and we finally caught our fish. Kept 12 walleye but it took a lot longer today. I think we are spoiled with the great fishery that we have.

It's Almost Too Hot to Fish!!

Fished with Joe. After yesterdays great day of fishing we had to go again. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 80's The water temp is 81 degrees. Fished the same location as yesterday and the catching was just a little slower. Today there was more boat traffic than yesterday. The fishing was good but today we lost a few large fish right behind the boat. It's that time of year were the fish slide right off the lure. We were done early enough to beat the heat again which makes for a great day. Kept 12 walleye.

The water temp is 80 degrees. We set up about a half mile past the S buoy trolling towards Turtle Island with wiggle warts set at 50 feet back. We were catching walleye right out of the gate and the fishing never slowed down. We caught mostly walleye and the majority of them were keepers. Just a great fishing day on Lake Erie. Kept 12 walleye and we were done before it started to get hot. After we cleaned the fish we went to the picnic table and ate lunch. There was a little breeze coming off the lake and it was very cool. On the ride home the car temperature read 95 degrees.

Fishing the Swamp

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 70's and when we quit fishing it was in the upper 80's. The wind was out of the southwest at 10 knots with a little chop on the lake. We fished in the swamp, one of my favorite places to fish. We used wiggle warts set at 30 feet back and we caught mostly walleye. Very nice walleye. There were no boats around and that made the fishing even better. We were done in short order and when we got back to the dock it took two people to pick up the cooler. Just a fun day in the swamp. We set up with bandits and we were catching fish right out of the gate. There was another large mayfly hatch last night but it did not hurt the fishing at all. Kept 18 walleye and after we cleaned them we went to the picnic table at the water front and had lunch. It's very nice sitting there with a cool breeze coming off the lake.

Fishing After the Storms

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 60's and when we quit fishing it was in the lower 70's. The wind was out of the northeast about 10 knots with waves around a foot. The water temp is 71 degrees. We had a big blow for a  couple of days out of the east and it tore up the lake. Lots of dirty water. There was also a large mayfly hatch last night. We had to go 3 miles the other side of the River Raisen shipping channel to find some clean water. We set up with dipsy's and spoons set at 75 feet back and bandits set at 80 feet back. The catching was slow but we were picking away at the fish. We finally found a good pod of fish so we stayed fishing in this area. Ended up with 12 walleye and 1 perch.

Problems at The Marina

Fished with Joe. Temperature this morning was in the lower 60's and when we quit fishing it was in the middle 70's. The wind was out of the east around 10 knots with waves about a foot. The water temp is 71 degrees. Have not been fishing because the hilo's are breaking down and management does not seem to care. A lot of people are getting upset over this issue. We headed out towards the S buoy and set up with bandits set at 50 and 60 feet back. The catching was pretty slow and we only had a few fish. Got a call from Daryl and they were fishing east of the E buoy catching fish so we pulled lines and headed over there. Set up and we started to catch some fish. Kept our 12 walleye and after we were done cleaning the fish we went back to the picnic table on the water and ate our lunch.

Caught a few more junk fish but it was not too bad. Trolled around the buoy just picking away at the fish. Starting to see a few more boats on the lake now and the marina has a little more activity. Kept our limit of walleye again today.

Fishing Again and it Feels Great

Fished with Joe. We drove down separate again, that's how it's going to be for this year. We set up in the same area as the last trip and the fishing was a little slower. We had to change our trolling direction, had to troll from the C buoy to the S buoy to catch our fish. We used bandits again this trip with the same set up as the last trip. We caught mostly walleye today. Kept 12 walleye for the trip. So far this year is pretty good for fishing.

First Trip with a Fishing Partner

Fished with Joe. Because of the Covid thing we decided it would be best if we both drove down to the marina. Trying to stay safe in a crazy time. Our game plan is to practice social distancing by staying on our own side of the boat and staying apart from each other the best we could. After it was all said and done it all worked out really good. This is how we are going to fish from now on. We started fishing by the C buoy trolling bandits 50 feet back heading towards the N buoy. We started catching some fish and all was well until we got too close to the N buoy. There was a large pod of sheep head by the N buoy and almost every pole had a sheep head on it. Once we were turned around and heading towards the C buoy we were back into the walleye. Turned out to be a fun day. Kept 12 walleye.

The Maiden Voyage, The Year of Covid19

This year the marina opened late in the year because of Covid19.  Went down to the boat today and got it ready to go fishing. Everything went very well so I decided to go fishing and make sure all the equipment was working on the boat. Had a problem with the auto pilot, it would not keep the boat in a straight line. Once I figured out the problem I did a quick fix on the water and all was well. Started fishing by the E buoy trolling bandits set at 50 feet back. Was not too worried about catching any fish but I caught the first walleye of the year. Trolled around this spot for a little while and I caught my limit. A good start to the year. Not sure how this Covid thing is going to play out.
